A few weeks ago God really spoke to me about modesty, purity and respect. Arriving at CFNI with little knowledge of the dress code I had many articles of clothing that I thought would be appropriate for Texas weather. I hadn’t thought about whether or not they would be appropriate for mixed gender classes. During the first all-girls orientation the Dean of Women blew my mind with the rules. Now, don’t get me wrong, I respect and agree with them, however it opened my eyes to how desensitized i have become over the years. That’s what threw me for a loop; that I would have to learn how to be modest, and a real modest. My idea of modest was not honoring to myself or men and I had to purify my wardrobe. The dress code is no shorts, only capris if they go to your mid-calf, no back or shoulder revealing shirts (including razor backs), three inch tank top, dresses must be to mid thigh (preferably with tights/leggings underneath), pants must not be too tight, no skinny jeans, no t-shirts with writing (because words are across the chest), and no leggings/jeggings/spandex (in gym or class) worn with only a shirt. For some, these rules might come off crazy. Especially with 100 degree weather. Most of the time we are indoors for classes, lunch, or dorms; air conditioning requires us to dress thick anyways. When i heard the no skinny jean rule and no shorts rule, I almost threw my clothes out. Going through my short shorts (yes, I am so ashamed) I was so upset with myself. I had become blind.
We always hear the verses, “Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion (Prov 11:22),” and “Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised (Prov 31:30).” You’ve probably heard of the Proverbs 31 woman even. These verses speak about modesty and how the outward appearance can be manipulative or misleading while the true admirable women is she who is discrete and modest. The Message bible calls us foolish for not being respectable, “Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful face on an empty head (Prov 11:22).”
Now look at this. A lot of women hate men. In fact, they think guys are disgusting and perverse. The majority of women get irritated and feel disrespected by men who hit on them or stare. Despite your past experience with men, abuse, stereotypical upbringing, or pride, who is really responsible for these acts of lust?
The answer: Men and Women. Both of us. We are both accountable.
Ladies watch what you wear! . You need to respect your brothers in Christ and not even hint at sexual immorality. This is such a serious issue.
Look at what Jesus spoke on adultery and lust:
“But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart (Matt 5:28).”
“If anyone causes one of these little ones–those who believe in me–to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea (Matt 18:6).”
This is so serious to Him! We can guard each other’s hearts and protect each other if we just take responsibility for our part and start to dress modestly. You see it in Timothy, “I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes (1 Tim 2:9),” and again in Peter, “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes.”
How wonderful to know that you are worth more than your body? How beautiful of a God do we serve that He wants us adored for our hearts and not our appearance? You can have this. You can have a man who will respect you and treat you pure and innocent. You attract what you are, how you act, how you dress and where you hang out, though.
So what kind of man or woman do you want to marry?
Are you going to be respectable? “Therefore let us stop passing judgement on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister (Rom 14:13).”
Are you going to meet them at a bar or at a church group? “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matt 6:21).
Are you going to respect your Father, your Creator? “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own (1 Cor 6:19).” Wow. “You are not your own,” Soak on that. You carry something so precious. The Holy Spirit is inside of you.
Take delight in knowing that you are so precious and worth far more than your flesh. You are not a body, but a soul. Let’s respect ourselves and our brothers in Christ by honoring this request from God. You are so loved.
Bless you all.
“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God (1 Cor 10:31).”
Been a while my lovelies! I have abandoned the internet for a few weeks due to my busy schedule. Alright chaps, just in:
I recently got to witness one of my best friends, since 3rd grade, marry her High School sweetheart. First time being a bridesmaid and I could barely keep from crying. The beautiful bride left shortly after the honeymoon to follow her Husband to Idaho, where he is stationed in the Air Force. Talk about a love story. These two are absolutely perfect for each other. I can’t imagine them with anybody else. There friendship has inspired me to hold out on relationships until i have found what they have, and settle for nothing less. I pray that their marriage be blessed!
Over the past week I have been on the Paleo diet. What’s that? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paleolithic_diet Am i crazy? No! It’s not as hard as it sounds! And i feel so great! I am becoming one with my body! I plan on keeping it up for as long as I can and when I am done I will permanently remain at least 70% Paleo. Keeping a few dairy items and whole grains.
I have two weeks left of work and then vacation! After that it’s TEXAS TIME BABY. I am so nervous.
I’ll try and update more now! Muah! Be blessed!
Imagine, if you will, a mother watching her daughter play with a ball in their driveway. The ball suddenly rolls away, and instinctively, the young child follows it. A car quickly passing the house makes an attempt to slam on the brakes, watching the girl continue to pursue her desire of the ball. Luckily the mother gets to her in time and pulls her out of the road. What made the mother step in front of a moving car? What made the little girl do it?
The mother loved the daughter; the daughter loved the ball. Love is our motivator. Love draws us to act; to move.
“Anger can fuel hatred in a man’s heart until he feels like attacking his enemy. But love can spark kindness in his heart so he lays down his life for his friend,” writes the Kendricks in “The Love Dare by Day: A Year of Devotions for Couples.” Fill your soul with love not anger. Fill your mind with positive, loving, Godly things.
What has love moved you to do? Do you wish you were driven to do more? Love more? Receive the love of Christ for your inspiration! Read the word and see what others have done because of love! We all need the reminder of what Jesus has done because of it. “For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died,” (2 Cor 5:14).
Father, thank You for loving me. I’m sorry for not saying thank You enough. Abba, I love You. I’m sorry for not saying it as much as You deserve. Please forgive me for my mistakes, my shortcomings, my selfish desires and harsh words, perverse thoughts, and lazy days. Lord, give this world the strength to follow you boldly. We put our hope in You. May we not hide in our self-seeking ways and live comfortable lives but step out into the path You have made for us and fearlessly become men and women after Your own heart. Set a fire down in our souls that we cannot contain and cannot control! Empty me of me and fill me with You! Replace my thoughts with your thoughts! “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind,” (2 Tim 1:7). Place somebody into my path today that I may have a chance to bless them and show them a Christ-like love. In Jesus name, Amen.
“This is Agent Snow Leopard, do you copy?”
Fellow agents of the Jesus: I have donated and cleaned out a vast majority of my room. I have a few boxes of books that were my grandmother’s, in which I had struggled parting ways with, that are officially ready to be dropped off at the living center she resided in before her death. Many pieces of furniture and clothes have been removed from my house. The less I have, the fuller I feel. This is only our temporary home! And I will spend my future traveling, so material thing need to lose their value in my life!
Secondly, I have failed at praying 4 psalms each in the morning, afternoon and evening. BUT. I will try again.
Then there was of course the 12 hour prayer. I am planning this event for a few weeks from now since my schedule is full of camping trips and Hawaii, to see my brother who is serving in the army. I miss my brother so much. I have however done a 2 hour prayer last week and I am so excited to crank it to 12.
Alas, Texas is getting closer and my training for becoming a full time missionary is quickly transforming into a reality. I am so nervous and excited! I will however miss my friends. I actually wrote 30 letters and mailed them to people who have had such an enormous effect on my life up to this point. There’s some words of affirmation flying around! Haha Get filled up by God and release it into the world around you!
Man, my leg and abs are sore from working out. I want to be in top condition so my body won’t slow me down in my days of serving. I have been spending lots of time outside and out of the air conditioning because I know I need to get used to no coolant eventually.
All for His glory.
Love you all! Be blessed!
God has placed you into every part of your life for a reason! Minister to those around you. Make yourself vulnerable and share your story. Tell someone today what God has done in your life. My life isn’t about me, just as yours has nothing to do with you. Love those around you! Everyone is hurting and has a past that needs the healing power of Christ. Pray for God to open Your eyes to that suffering! Quit praying for His blessings on YOUR life and start praying for Him to make you a blessing in someone else’s life! Philippians 2:3-5 says, “don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.” Choose to reflect on Gods love everyday! I constantly get wrapped up in my own life. I drink coffee, sit in air conditioning, sleep on a very nice bed, eat warm filling meals; my life is so comfortable. We weren’t called to live comfortably! When we are comfortable we get selfish and lazy, thinking of our desires and needs, and forgetting about the rest of the world. Maybe we have too much. Maybe we need to just give away a little. And a little more. And a little more. And more still! I think we’d be surprised at how much we can ‘survive’ with. How much less can we have and still be thriving? If you confess with your mouth that God is all you need, would you be willing to prove it? And if you claim to be a follower of Jesus, who fed the poor, healed the sick, clothed the needy and cast out demons, would you be willing to live like Him like you you say you do? Because I don’t think Jesus only attended church, listened to 91.3 and had good Christian friends. Who would He have helped if He kept to Himself, concerned with only His salvation? Brothers and sisters this is a matter of life and death! Can we stop treating it so lightly? Love someone today. Just do something so full of genuine love that the world points to Jesus, knowing His hand was in it.
@Baffers28: My tender heart is Yours alone, I come trembling at the thrown. A sinner guilty; tear stained face, standing only thanks to Grace.
http://bible.us/97/PSA42.1.MSG A white-tailed deer drinks from the creek; I want to drink God, deep draughts of God. I’m thirsty for God-alive. I wonder, “Will I ever make it— arrive and drink in God’s presence?” I’m on a diet of tears— tears for breakfast, tears for supper. All day long people knock at my door, Pestering, “Where is this God of yours?”
“Abba, cleanse me of anything that breaks Your heart! Empty my head of my own selfish, confused, and perverse thoughts and fill it with Your promises, words of affirmation and encouragement! Thank you for loving me! Fill me Holy Spirit! And forgive me for all my sinful habits, and heal me from them, Jesus. Amen!”
If you have never heard of Patricia King I highly suggest that you start watching some of her teachings. She has such a fierce heart for God and is very much prophetic!
