“The way we handle the heart is everything. A man must know he is powerful; he must know he has what it takes. A woman must know she is beautiful; she must know she is worth fighting for.”

Tigger Mug& Florence + the Machine

Man. Already 10AM and my day has been so long. Waking up at 5AM to work each morning trains your mind to never allow a day of sleeping in. Well that depends on the definition of sleeping in. 7AM is sleeping in for me I guess. I just now decided that it’s a good thing. I’m grateful! No worries.

I have had the stomach flu these past few days and haven’t been into work. Sad face. But I am healed now! Gasp! #praisehim

So this morning I have been one busy bee. Submitting to the couch because of my illness makes me anxious for the day I am restored to health so I can quickly make up for lost time. I have already dyed my hair today, read some devotionals for about an hour, read a few chapters of “Cold Tangerines” by Shauna Niequist, and worked on my scrap book journal. Phew! Feelin’ real accomplished up in here.

Not gunna lie. It’s pretty hard to type with a manicure. I found a drugstore manicure kit–fake glue-ons–lying around and decided to make myself feel pretty. Real classy-like. I remember why I didn’t use them before, even though the box says “medium-length,” lets get real, they’re dangerous–weapons. So I’m attempting to type herekajs’dghgs’dgjadg. Little dramatic. Anyways……

This morning  in my devotional I focused hard on healing and restoration. Not just because I’m sick but because my mind is still renewing itself and allowing God to transform it from my past. I’d like to share my thoughts a bit. But first, I’d like to dedicate this post to my dear friend. One whom, has a had a very shocking recent loss in her family; her oldest sister.

Take a moment and invite the Lord into your mind and presence. (Of course He is always present, however we need the reminder, sadly). Ask Him to open the eyes and ears of your heart for what He wants to show you through this. Psalm 23 most Christ followers are pretty familiar with. Well, it happens to be one of my friends favorites! And mine to. How many times have we read some scriptures without meditating on it? Mhm. So. This time let Him grab a hold of your heart and just hold it. Allow Him to just love on you! When we draw near to Him, He draws near to us (James 4:8)! Begin reading in a whisper:

PSALM 23 “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”

I love it when my devotionals and a random book I’m reading come together in a lesson. God is too cool sometimes, ya know? After reading this verse and few other scriptures from my devotional book “Power Prayers for Women” by Jackie M. Johnson I read a few chapters of “Cold Tangerines.” This book has been opening my eyes to the joy of life. How praise is so important, not just in the good times, but through trials. Do you realize the power we have not only with prayer but with praise? The devil himself was the angel of music. He must be shaking when we sing such powerful lyrics like “the mountains shook before Him, the demons run and flee at the mention of His name King of Majesty. There is no power in Hell or any who can stand before the power and the presence of The Great I Am!” In any situation where you feel lack of control, like you have nothing to hold onto and it’s all slipped out of your hands, remember who’s holding you in His hands. Praise Him!!

This book has also opened to my eyes at how we have certain ritualistic ways of comforting ourselves. Whether it be with food, friends, TV, books, shopping, or running. We tend to resort to something before God without even realizing it because we are so habitual. Blah! But my friends respond so fast!! haha. God, why?? I was mad when I realized this. We are supposed to go to Him first, right? So we need to pray for God to rewire our brains and bodies to find comfort in God first, happiness in Him first and to not replace Him with anything. He wants to be our main source of comfort! In the chapter I read this morning Shauna talks about how she gave up TV for lent with her husband, and in the next 5 weeks she attended 5 funerals. She had just moved to Grand Rapids and hardly knew anyone and what’s worse…her main source of comfort, all the E! news and reruns of her favorite shows were banned from her life. She was mad! What she thought was horrible timing, was His perfect timing. In the quietness of her living room she sought after God more concentrated and listened keener. He isn’t abandoning you in times of trials! He has things to tell you! He wants to talk!

You are loved. You are loved! For some you need to hear ‘You are heard’, ‘You are beautiful’, ‘You have a future’ or ‘Happiness is yours.’ Don’t ever let anything take your happiness from you. You deserve to rejoice. After all, I can tell you this. There is a man who loved you so much, that He volunteered to die in your place. When they took Him, He didn’t struggle. He took the beatings, He laid their why they nailed Him to a wooden cross. How could someone do that? Well,  the same way a Mother runs after her little girl who has just chased their ball into a busy road.  He had someone in mind. YOU. Love draws us to act.

“Lord, I need Your times of refreshing in my life. Bread of Heaven, as You nourish my body with food, feed my soul with Your words of  comfort and life. May I be filled with Your healing love, joy and goodness. I praise You, Father, for providing green pastures, places to relax and unwind in the Spirit. Please still my heart from distractions and be the restorer of my soul. Abba, if there is anything in my life distracting me from You, remove it! Rewire my brain to run to You first, to find comfort in You instead of me relying on things around me. Thank you for making me in Your image. Thank you for loving me. Amen.”
